Guidance on Oceans for Rio+20

The Pew Environment Group has published two documents to guide States in preparing their submissions to the Compilation Document of UNCSD (Rio+20). The publications contain recommendations for elements to include in the outcome document, an outline of ocean-related commitments from the previous summits on sustainable development, and an analysis of gaps in implementing those commitments.

UNCSD (Rio+20): Ocean Briefing

The Pew Environment Group has issued a briefing and recommendations to the First Intersessional Meeting titled “Bringing the Ocean Back into the Earth Summit”.

Oceans in UNCSD (Rio+20)

The Pew Environment Group presented its briefing and recommendations titled: “Bringing the Ocean Back into the Earth Summit” to the 1st Intersessional Meeting of UNCSD (Rio+20), which took place from 10-11 January at UN/HQ. Citing laggard international governance on behalf of the marine environment, a solution is proposed for UNCSD to initiate a negotiating process towards a comprehensive and legally binding implementing agreement under UNCLOS.
